Inter-Religious Council Confirms Dates Of Presidential Debates 2021

Presidential Candidates to face off in two National debates organised by the intereligious council of Uganda. The Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU) together with four other organizations have confirmed dates of the Presidential debates for the 2021 election cycle.

Other organizers of this debate include Elders Forum Uganda (TEFU), Inter-Party Organization for Dialogue (IPOD), the National Consultative Forum (NCF) and the Independent Electoral Commission (EC).

11 Presidential candidates include President Yoweri Museveni, National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi and Retired Maj. Gen. Gregory Mugish Muntu of ANT among others are the expected to face off in these debates.

Addressing journalists on behalf of the IRCU Chairman after a closed door meeting Bishop Joshua Lwere says this time round the debates will be held in two groups. This is due to the big number of candidates. They will conduct this in four sessions scheduled on December 4th and 5th 2020 and January 2nd and 3rd 2020.

However, Lwere notes that debate topics will be in the framework of Uganda National Dialogue Framework paper. The topics will also come from emerging issues captured in public opinion polls and party manifestos.
