“Congratulations 11th Parliament for listening to the cries of our people by passing the Anti-Homosexuality Bill. To you, Rt Hon @AnitahAmong, God will reward you for standing firm and steering the house despite the intimidation and threats.”
Parliament yesterday passed the Anti-Homosexuality bill. This bill is only awaiting signing by President Museveni to become a law. According to the bill’s contents, same-sex relationships in Uganda were criminalized.
Friends, family and members of the community have a duty to report gay people to the authorities. Being found guilty of ‘gay-ism’ earns one 10 years behind bars.
Aggravated homosexuality leads to more extreme punishment. The bill was supported by 73% of all legislators.
Western donor funds and countries have already started threatening to cease relationships with the East African country. The ball now lies in President Museveni’s hands on how he’s going to handle this delicate matter.
