It should be recalled that yesterday 16th February was the Janan Luwum day. This is celebrated every year since 2015 and the main celebrations were in Kitgum this year.
Therefore, to Museveni, there was no good reason for Amin to murder Luwum. It was just ideological confusion that influenced this murder.
President Museveni is however glad that the freedom fighters were able to exterminate the killers in the Amin regime. The President hailed all those who contributed to the availability of peace currently.
“In remembrance of the late Archbishop Janani Luwum who was unnecessarily murdered, I was in Kitgum district to celebrate his life. It was unfortunate that he and other Ugandans were murdered for no good reason under the influence of ideological confusion. However, I am happy that with the support of God, the freedom fighters defeated all the killers. I salute all the people who contributed to the attainment of the peace we now enjoy. May his soul rest in peace,” he said.
It should be recalled that the Archbishop was arrested in February 1977. He then died shortly after his arrest. Official records show that he died in a car crush.
However, credible sources stated that he was murdered on the orders of the then President, Idi Amin.
With the recent rise of torture cases and abduction of Ugandans who criticize the government, there is much worry. Many Ugandans have raised concerns that the government is repeating what it fought against.
