The Minister of Internal Affairs, Maj Gen Kahinda Otafiire has asked government workers to allow authorities to audit them if they are not corrupt.
The Minister made these remarks while at Bwebajja in Wakiso district where different Police Officers graduated in different levels of education.
According to Otafiire, these government officials should not refuse to be audited if they have nothing to hide. He said that this would help curb the rampant levels of corruption in the country.
This apparently is high amongst civil servants. The Military General also added that he doesn’t see why someone in public service should refuse to give accountability for their work and earnings.
If they can’t, they should pave the way for those who can. It should be noted that the Minister has become one of the most vocal voices in government against corruption.
At a recent graduation at Kampala International University, he called upon the youths to stand up for their rights. He said that they should demand accountability from those in power because it’s their resources that are being mismanaged.
“Do not allow people to tell you we are stealing on your behalf. Leaders do not steal, we do not elect leaders to steal,” he said back then.
Kahinda Otafiire received a lot of backlash from regime apologists. They branded him as one of the faces of corruption. They went on to say that he’s been involved in a number of corruption scandals over the years.
However, he also received support from other Ugandans who have expressed their concerns about the continued mismanagement of the country’s resources by a few individuals.
