Kampala Traffic Boss Wants Boda Boda Industry Regulated

Kampala traffic boss Dr. Steven Kansiima has demanded for urgent regulation of boda boda industry in a bid to improve road safety in Kampala city.

He says majority of drivers in Kampala are unregulated and uncontrollable  because they lack designated stages,areas if operations and identification for easy  traffic management.

“We demand for quick boda boda regulation in Kampala if we are to  improve road safety.the number of riders is overwhelmingly high and uncontrollable,”Kansiima said.

Kansiima proposes that the number of riders should be reduced and operators licensed and registered.

Kansiima was addressing second national safety summit  stakeholders comprising of private companies,government and civil society in road safety campaign under the theme: road safety: time for action at Sheraton hotel.

According to traffic road safety report 2018,of the 12,805 death’s boda boda riders topped number of road traffic deaths with majority cases registered in Kampala metropolitan area.

Kampala Minister Betty Kamya said they are working on new boda boda ordinance to regulate boda boda transport industry. She said the new ordinance will have stringent regulations in stages, parking, dress core, identification on operators soon.
