The attackers reportedly arrived at Rubiriha secondary school in the night of Friday and began shooting indiscriminately, causing panic and chaos among the students and staff.
As a result of the attack, at least 25 students were killed, and two security guards, and several others were injured.
Meanwhile the rebels are said to have abducted an unknown number of students as they retreated back into the Democratic Republic of Congo.
This attack was confirmed by the Kasese Resident District commissioner Mr Joel Walusimbi.
Meanwhile the Uganda Police spokesperson Fred Enanga when contacted by our reporter confirmed the incident and said the police was on ground to ascertain the number of dead and missing as well as how the attack occurred.
The ADF (Allied Democratic Forces) is a rebel group that has been active in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for many years, but more recently has also carried out attacks in neighboring Uganda.
The group has been responsible for a number of deadly attacks in the region, including a 2019 attack on a town in eastern DRC that killed at least 14 people.
The Ugandan government has been working to contain the threat posed by the ADF rebels, but the group has proven difficult to eradicate completely. Attacks like the one on the Kasese school highlight the ongoing security challenges faced by the region.
