Kasubi Tombs Catches Fire Again After Ten Years

One of the huts inside Kasubi Tombs on Friday caught fire. It was quickly extinguished before causing serious damages, according to Police.

In the statement released by Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Mr Onyango Patrick, there was a minor fire out-break in one of the huts inside Kasubi Tombs, which was quickly put out by officers from the Directorate of Fire and Rescue Services (DFRS).

Mr Onyango said that one of the huts a few meters away from the main structure caught fire at around 1pm, adding that they were immediately informed and responded quickly by sending four of their fire crew to handle the incident.

Four of our fire crew arrived quickly and extinguished the fire. Police has launched investigations to establish the cause of the fire outbreak. Many people have gathered outside the main gate, ‘he said.

The information minister in Buganda kingdom, Hon Kiyimba Noah revealed that the structure that caught fire was accommodating traditional spirits of the Buganda Royal twins.

However, the Buganda Royal twins were not burnt by the fire. They are safe, ‘he said.

On 16th March 2010, Kasubi Tombs experienced mysterious fire outbreak. The Buganda Kingdom through the Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga began a fundraising campaign called ‘Etofaali’ within Uganda and outside to help reconstruct the facility.

A number of companies and individuals supported the campaign, but up to now, the construction work is not complete.
