He replaces George Mugabe who has been the chairman since 2017.
According to the tea factory’s Secretary Kenneth Mutabaruka, the newly elected Directors of the company elected Asiimwe.
This happened in a meeting held on Tuesday at the factory premises in Butogota Town Council in Kanungu District. As for Mutabaruka, he acted as a returning officer for the elections.
Asiimwe who served as the GM at Kayonza Growers Tea factory for over 20 years before retiring five years ago, emerged as the Factory Chairman after the election.
This happened together with Wilboard Omusasizi and defeated Jackson Saturday in the Zonal Pack.
Asiimwe won with 176,737 votes and Saturday Jackson got 141,897 votes. And when the Directors met to vote/select the chairman, they came up with him.
Other elected directors include Abel Amporeire from Mpungu Zone who got 100,354 votes to defeat the incumbent John Tukwasibwe.
In addition, Joshua Wamala got 38,240 votes, and Yeremiya Behangana who fetched 16,339 votes.
The shareholders also elected Marcelenious Mutambi from Rutenga zone with 138,095 votes to replace Richard Turinawe who almost got 99,000 votes.
They also elected Grace Kyomugisha to represent the women’s seat after she scored 172,935 votes to defeat Irene Mbabazi who got 102,799 votes.
