He stated that he’s ready to fight for the herb not to be banned because it’s a source of livelihood for many Ugandans.
The singer added that miraa is not a drug that makes people high. It’s rather an anti-depressant and also helps people to relax, meditate and think.
According to the Biri Biri singer, many people especially the elderly can’t do any other job apart from farming miraa. Therefore, banning the herb would lead many into abject poverty since they have no alternative work.
Additionally, he queried why most MPs are quiet about this topic yet they know its gravity on the people.
“I’m ready to fight for the farmers of mairungi because if they are stopped from growing it, they will suffer. Me myself I’m one of the users and a ban on them will affect me too. Sometimes I wonder why MPs are so quiet about such an issue. People from Kasenge, Butambala depend on it so much. Why don’t MPs like Muwanga Kivumbi advocate for the grievances of these people?” he wondered.
Apparently, miraa is among the proposed drugs to be banned by the government in a new shakeup of the laws. This however doesn’t excite the former Leone Island singer who is also a user of this herb.
Additionally, he said that when such businesses of people are closed, their income will be affected. And this will in turn affect musicians who go to perform for these people deep in villages.
