The former leader of the FDC, Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye has condemned Police for its brutality following an altercation that left the leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP) injured. The country was left in a state of fear after news emerged that Bobi Wine had been shot in the leg.
Footage emerged of his team carrying him into a car and then transporting him to Najeem Clinic for treatment. The NUP party went ahead to reveal that their president had been shot as he was coming from a private function in Bulindo, Kira.
Police however refuted the allegations saying that the former MP had “stumbled” as he got into his car and got wounded in the process. However, footage later showed that a teargas canister had been fired at him at close range.
Speaking about the incident, Besigye revealed that this was uncalled for. He said it’s not policing but continued brutality and oppression of the Opposition by the Police.
“I’ve just caught up with what happened last evening in Bulindo, Kira. The horrible outcome of what, as usual, is totally uncalled-for police aggression against political “opposition” leaders. From LOP Ssenyonyi’s brief, the injuries Hon Kyagulanyi suffered are from the Tear Ball Grenades (usually blue coloured), that UPF liberally employs as part of persecution- NOT policing! We condemn the UPF for its continued rampant abuse of Human Rights. We pray for President Kyagulanyi’s speedy recovery.”
Police meanwhile said that they will carry out further investigations to ascertain how this incident happened. Meanwhile, several people are sending messages to the former presidential candidate.
Among these is the former LOP, Hon Mathias Mpuuga who called the Police for its brutality.
