Kyambogo University Vice Chancellor Advises Parents To Buy E-learning Gadgets

Kyambogo University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Eli Katunguka has advised parents to buy their children e-learning materials. This is because the University is embarking on this system since schools are still physically closed.

However, the VC says this endeavor has been hard because most of their students don’t have the gadgets to facilitate e-learning.

“We encourage parents, those who can afford, to buy their students these items so that learning can continue during this period. When institutions finally re-open, they (students) might find the whole routine of having to go to lectures and learning cumbersome. So let us facilitate online learning,” Katunguka said.

Of course, this is not the only issue at hand as revealed by the VC. Some of the issues are beyond their control. The cost of data is also a very big problem.

“The cost of data for example… data is still expensive in this country, lack of power to charge the gadgets for those that have them, and some students do not have the gadgets.”

Prof Katunguka said this while addressing the media about the upcoming graduation ceremony of Kyambogo University. This will be the 17th graduation ceremony.

It is going to be held in September from 21st to 25th 2021. Obviously, this will most probably be a virtual graduation because of the ongoing pandemic.

The opening of schools is still under debate because of the different opinions that everyone has on what to exactly do.

However, until the president gives directives, schools are still under lockdown.
