Lawmaker Seeks Compensation Of UGX 25 Million Following Manhole Accident

Bamunanika County lawmaker Robert Kafeero Ssekitoleko is pursuing legal action to claim UGX 25 million in damages after being involved in a manhole accident.

The incident, which occurred recently, has prompted the lawmaker to seek compensation for the injuries sustained.

The member of parliament, fell into an uncovered manhole while walking close to Garden City The manhole, located in close proximity to a busy road, had been left exposed without any warning signs or barriers, posing a significant danger to pedestrians. As a result of the accident, the lawmaker suffered injuries, including bruises and sprains.

Medical attention was sought immediately, and the injuries were treated accordingly. However, the incident has had a profound impact on the MP’s physical well-being and daily activities.

Recognizing the negligence involved in maintaining the manhole, the parliamentarian has decided to take legal action against the responsible parties.

The aim is to ensure that accountability is upheld and that similar accidents can be prevented in the future. Through legal representation, the MP is seeking compensation amounting to UGX 25 million.

Lawmaker’s legal team have evidence to the claims

This amount includes medical expenses, loss of income due to the inability to perform official duties during the recovery period, and general damages for the pain and suffering endured.

The lawmaker’s legal team intends to present evidence, including medical reports, photographs of the accident scene, and testimonies from witnesses, to support the claim for damages.

They will argue that the responsible parties failed in their duty to maintain public safety by leaving the manhole exposed without proper measures in place.

Additionally, the parliamentarian hopes that by pursuing legal action, this incident will serve as a wake-up call to authorities and relevant stakeholders to prioritize the maintenance and safety of public infrastructure.

It is crucial to address such issues promptly to protect citizens from preventable accidents and ensure their well-being. The case is expected to proceed through the legal system, with a final verdict determining whether the MP will receive the sought-after compensation.
