In the meeting, they discussed sustainability measures as well as sanitation and solid waste management in the city.
They also talked about funding and building of synergies with other institutions like National Water and Sewerage Cooperation (NWSC).
The meeting happened after reports showed Kampala Metropolitan Area has only 10% of the population connected to the sewer line.
This can evidently be seen in times like this when the country is experiencing heavy downpours. Due to the poor drainage and sewer systems, sewage overflows along the road which even leads to diseases.
The two leaders, therefore, agreed to share a mandate to extend the sewer system to the rest of the population.
Apparently, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has been a major partner to Kampala Capital City Authority. This partnership has however majorly focused on sanitation and hygiene.
Other dignitaries including Deputy Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjura and City Minister for Health Olive Namazzi attended the meeting.
Also, the Minister for Finance Johnmary Ssebuwufu and technical staff from the Directorate of Public Health were present.
