Lubiri High School Saga Should Teach Organizations To Have Crisis Communication Manual – Simon Njala

NBS senior journalist, Simon Kagwa Njala, has said if there is anything to learn from the Lubiri high school saga, it’s that organizations need to be organized.

He says all organizations should have a crisis communication manual. He says they should be planned for as all other departments as well because you never know what can happen.

“The Lubiri High School PR disaster serves a big lesson to all organizations. You need a Crisis Communications manual. Above all, in any crisis, think backward. Have an end in mind before making any response.”

Lubiri High school has been in the news after their students appeared in a video dancing sexually. At first, the school denied these were students even if the uniforms indicated otherwise.

To make matters worse, the students were on a bus belonging to another school. It was after a lot of pressure from the public that Lubiri High School finally came out through a statement to say the students are theirs.

However, the fact that they first denied that the students were theirs left many people questioning their integrity. Perhaps if they had a functioning PR office, this wouldn’t have happened as it did.

Usually, Public Relations Officers know how to respond in times of disaster without raising so many heads. Some people say this is typical of organizations in Uganda.

“Wapi, if Uganda as a nation doesn’t have a crisis communications manual, how about a mere school???” a one Stephen Bill commented.
