Makindye Mayor Kasirye Nganda To Tarmac More Roads If Voted Again

Makindye Mayor Kasirye Nganda To Tarmac More Roads If Voted Again

Makindye Mayor Alhaji Kasirye Nganda says he will use his second term in office to tarmac more roads in the division if voted again.

Kasirye who is contesting against city businessman Kalungi Moses and Bob Muhumuza says he has not completed his development projects for the division.

“My main emphasis during my second term in office 2021/25 will be to tarmac more roads in the division saying more roads are poor state. Among the roads under way we have Kayemba road, luwaffu, kakonge kibuli, Nsambya road, Salaama and kikuba mutwe. These roads will be financed with funding from African Development Bank, “Kasirye said.

In education sector, Kasirye intends to provide bursaries to bright but disadvantaged youth to pursue university education. He says this will enable them acquire employable skills to reduce house hold poverty.

So far he has offered 1200 bursaries to university students in Makindye studying at Kampala University and Kampala International University.

Commenting about wide spread poverty in the urban city, Kasirye Nganda pledged to extend national agricultural advisory services to the public. Especially to the youth and women. He also plns on increasing the number of youth benefiting from youth livelihood programme so as to create enterprises to generate income.

Kasirye Nganda to make Makindye division independent

Kasirye further said he will lobby government to create Makindye division as an independent division. It will be separate from Kampala capital city authority. He says because of lack of autonomy, they cannot generate enough budget for works, education and health in the division.

“My biggest challenge as mayor of Makindye has been greatly hampered by bureaucracy and reliance on money from KCCA. We make budgets but KCCA takes the decision to provide money depending on their priorities. This has resulted into poor service delivery and delays in procurement of works, “Kasirye said.

“It’s therefore my single objective during my last term in office as mayor to lobby central government for autonomy of Makindye division. This is to attract budgetary support and investment in the division,” he added.

Kasirye a die hard DP supporter was recently nominated to contest for Makindye division mayor seat under people power ticket.

He however appeals to division leaders not to front in politics in service provision after winning the seat.

“A good leader creates dialogue with different political party heads to provide service to the public. Its on  this ground that I challenge fellow politicians who will be voted to join me to develop Makindye together despite our political differences we should serve our electorates not parties, “Kasirye stressed.
