85 Year Old Man Dies As He Lined Up To Receive Elderly Cash

An old man, aged 85 collapsed and died as he was trying to line up to be registered for Social Assistance Grant for Empowerment (SAGE) programme which is ongoing in Amuria District.

Mr Olinga Henrick lost his life at the Sub-county headquarters where the SAGE programme officials had gathered to register 52 elders who will start benefiting from the programme soon.

According to the vice chairman of the area, Mr Eroku Peter, the old man died at around 4pm as they were attending the council meeting, they were forced to end session because of the incident.

The vice chairperson said the old man was brought by his brother in-law to the registration venue when he was already sick, but because he never wanted him to miss the opportunity, he had to bring him by all means, but unfortunately he collapsed and died as he was lining up to be recorded.

Later, the body was transported to his home village in Awajakitoi,’’he said.
