Man Who Sold Bulletproof Car To Bobi Wine Reveals Disturbing Details

A Kenyan businessman who sold a bulletproof car to opposition heavyweight Bobi Wine has said he followed the right procedure in exporting the car. This comes after authorities in Uganda questioned the circumstances under which Bobi Wine was able to secure a bulletproof car and ship it into Uganda.

Fauz Khalid, a politician, is currently eyeing the Mvita parliamentary seat. He has been in the logistics business for over 20 years. He described “Mr Wine” who leads the National Unity Platform (NUP) as his long time buddy.

The 44-year-old businessman revealed that the car in the spotlight was not even fully paid for. He added that he is yet to receive full payment for the black Toyota Land-cruiser. This Land-cruiser is also currently under investigation by Ugandan authorities on how “Mr. Wine” imported it and whether or not he paid taxes.

The luxurious locomotive, which was initially registered as KCY 550X according to the Kenyan National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has since had its registration changed to UBJ 667F under Mr Wine’s name.

Khalid apparently schooled in Uganda for both his secondary and higher learning. This is also where he met the pop star turned political problem for the NRM government under President Museveni.

The businessman delivered the armoured vehicle to the 38-year-old politician in November 2020.

Questions only came about the car’s importation after “Mr. Wine” shared its photos on his social media pages. Critical social media users questioned how “Mr. Wine” operated under the radar of security and intelligence services to ship in the monster automobile.

What authorities say

The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) launched investigations into whether or not the opposition presidential candidate in the recently concluded elections paid the USh 88 million (KSh 2.6 million) in duty.

The IGG through the director of leadership code Annet Twine on the other hand said Wine risks losing his newly acquired vehicle to the state. This will take effect if he fails to make a declaration on whether or not it was a donation.

He still has time to make a declaration. Under section 10 of the Leadership Code, when you receive a gift in the course of your duties, you have to declare it. We shall wait until he submits his declaration and see how he explains how he got it,” Twine said.
