“Last year during a national executive committee retreat with our(DP) MPs, we passed resolutions for a five year plan. We resolved to find a way to achieve our main goal of achieving state power and if that fails, we should share power substantively. President general signing a cooperation agreement with NRM was the beginning of the process to be followed in achieving our resolutions (as DP).”
Okoler said if anyone is not okay with what Mao did, they should go through the National Executive Committee of DP to share their grievances.
“DP members and Ugandans should understand that DP has no demigods. No one in the party is stronger than the party organs. If anyone disagrees with Mao’s decision, they should go through the National Executive Committee members.”
However, Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago said Mao didn’t sign that agreement for DP. According to him, that agreement is actually a sales agreement for Mao’s personal interests.
“We should not call what Nobert Mao signed with NRM a cooperation agreement but rather a sale agreement. Mao did not sign that agreement in the interest of DP members.”
Opposition has been torn apart due to Mao’s decisio. Some people have even gone ahead to consider excommunicating him from DP.
