Media Personalities Joining Politics, Where does this Leave Objectivity?

Recent years have seen media personalities flooding the political arena in huge numbers. This wouldn’t be bad at all but where does it leave objectivity? How does the public trust that the media is not subjective at all when at the end of the day we see them running to take sides politically?

This year alone, we’ve had about 5 prominent media personalities join politics. Miles Rwamiti, Annet Nambooze alias Anatalia Ozzy, Dj. Jacob Omutuuze, Kayima Shafik, Mr. Mosh among others.

This brings a lot of questions in our minds. Are they doing this for the people or their names? Is it right to trust them or they are just looking for more limelight?

How does this affect the media industry?

Truth be told, this paints a certain picture in the media. Not that they have no right to decide or take part in politics but it raises a number of suspicions. Before Joel Senyonyi, former News Anchor now the spokesperson of NUP joined active politics, his social media posts were always throwing arrows at the government and he lost us on the ground of objectivity. He later quit following his passions.

Does this mean that all the prominent media personalities will eventually end up in active politics? How good is that for the industry? It only looks like, they come on set to get famous to later join politics with ease because people already know them.

The only bad thing about this is that it is so hard to male come back in the media industry after joining politics because we all can tell your side of interest.

It’s not the politics they join, it’s what happens after that is actually our greatest concern. We have had many media personalities join politics and actually never helped the industry in any way. If at the end of the day, the political milestone on their careers also added value to the industry, it would actually make more sense.
