Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Bruno Rodriguez, the delegation head, also brought the Cuban Ambassador to Uganda, H.E Tania Perez Xiques, among others.
The Minister of State for International Affairs, Hon. Henry Okello Oryem also attended the meeting. It took place at the president’s country home in Ntungamo district.
During the meeting, President Museveni stressed the need to invest in scientific research areas, manufacturing as well as barter trade.
“There are good areas of business collaboration like the pathogenic industry in the manufacturing of vaccines that can capture the market in Uganda, East Africa and Africa,” he said.
The President went as far as saying it would also be advantageous if they involved in barter trade with the private sector or deal directly with the government.
In this area, he said Cuba could get food products for example maize, powdered milk and beans from Ugandan farmers. In return, this would be exchanged for Cuban products like pharmaceuticals without involving monetary exchange. Something the President termed as ‘easy trade’.
The Cuban Foreign Affairs Minister expressed Cuba’s gratitude to President Museveni over African relations with Cuba through African Union (AU) solidarity. H
e also informed President Museveni that the economy of Cuba advances most through manufacturing. Apparently, it focuses most on pharmaceuticals, international tourism and industry.
