Minister Matia Kasaija Doesn’t Know What He Was Reading – Hon Mubarak Munyagwa

Former Kawempe South MP Mubarak Munyagwa has come out to claim that Finance Minister Matia Kasaija doesn’t know what he was reading yesterday in regards to the budget.

Kasaija in his key economic points didn’t talk about Uganda becoming a Middle-class income country. This is a narrative that has been hugely pushed by President Museveni and the government.

It is however disputed by majority of the citizens and the opposition politicians.

Museveni also while delivering his speech wondered why Kasaija became afraid to reveal how Uganda has reached this intermediary level of income.

To Munyagwa, this was just a manifestation of the government and the Ministry of Finance. They are completely unaware of the reality on ground reason they make such ‘false claims.’

“Today, the President asked the Minister of Finance why he had forgotten to mention that we are in middle-income status. That shows the Minister didn’t know what he was reading,” he said while appearing on NBS’s Barometer show.

Further, the ex-MP said that President Museveni is trying to manipulate the judiciary and Parliament. And through the speaker of Parliament Hon Anita Among, Museveni has found the perfect partner.

Munyagwa also castigated the MPs for receiving an additional 40m shillings at the expense of citizens. The FDC member said that if indeed they did, then it’s morally wrong due to the current economic crisis.

“President Museveni has tried to manipulate the judiciary and parliament. The President wants to wash away the parliament’s dignity. Anita Among is driving the Parliament where Museveni wants.

If the Members of Parliament truly received UGX 40 million, then it’s immoral. Not in this economic situation. If they received that money, then we don’t have a parliament.”

Munyagwa also added that Ugandans want to know what the government is doing to tackle the problems affecting them. It doesn’t make sense for the government to concentrate on infrastructure development when people have nothing to eat.

Furthermore, the MP also criticized the current crop of MPs. According to Munyagwa these are of poor quality and lack patriotism for their country and people.
