Mixed Reactions On Social Media As Health Minister Considers Another Lockdown

During an interview with Journalists, the Health Minister, Dr Jane Ruth Aceng said that people are no longer following preventive measures. That means we may move to stage four. In such a situation, to avoid mass deaths, it may be necessary to consider another lockdown.

Here are some of the comments from Facebook fans

1). Cos u people in the government failed to fulfill ur promises to the population, you are locking down people to make you concentrate on stealing borrowed money and use it for yourself gain. You are not concentrating on improving the health facilities, no new ambulances bought..nothing you are doing…we are tired,’said Sunday Black.

2). People are still nursing the wounds of the previous lockdown and trying to come back on track, then you talk about another lockdown because of fear and other reasons known to you . Guys get serious,’said Magala Junior.

3). We’ll put down the government! Our silence doesn’t mean that we are fools, continue provoking us but the day we’ll retaliate, I don’t think most of you will still be in Uganda 🇺🇬
For God and My Country,’said Nelly King.

4). Are you people evening following what WHO is saying on face mask? I also hear this virus has come to stay so are you going to lockdown forever? Anyhow where man can’t do their part in letting the people be, God will do what no man can do! Dr Jane Ruth Aceng guide the government well you may be Like queen Esther in your position,’said Susan Makarios.

6). In our culture, instead of dieing today, you rather die tomorrow. People are hungry, people are depressed. Children nolonger welcome their parents with smiles but tears have become children’s songs daily. Even if you lockdown again, people will die of hunger. Why fear covid pain that u watch or hear people going through when you are already dieing of hunger. Hunger is painful madam Minister. You won’t lockdown forever. Leaders ought to be innovative. Think twice. Think about other measures,’said Gilbert Niyonsaba.

7). I never trusted you from the start. I remained skeptical about what you could offer as guidance to a nation. And surely, you’ve disappointed as hoped. You’re entrenching yourselves in wealth accumulated at the expense of the tax payer, whom you’ve and you’re entrenching in the abyss of poverty. You’re too clueless,’said Ivans Nambale Senkandwa.

8). Gilbert Niyonsaba, I think what we need is self discipline, follow guidelines and we will overcome the pandemic, when you see how people are ignoring the keep a distance issue you may think that they are not informed at all, keep a distance so that u don’t get the virus and take it home when you go back and hug your family after work,’said Fred Buta.

9). Government should act fast. I didn’t agree fully with the president the other day when he said no one should blame him for any deaths that will result from this behavior. My reason is he is a leader and must not give up for the sake of other law abiding citizens. These careless citizens are so informed that it defeats understanding why they want to get infected and later spread it to the others who are following the rules consistently. You would want to cry if you stood in front of stanbic bank Gulu and watch the streets. Almost half of people moving (both driving and walking) did not have face masks on today. For those that possessed, others just hung on the neck or below lower lips,’said Thomas Oluk.

10). You try madam minister and you shall know that even the Government can be in a lockdown,’said Omony Innocent.

From the above comments, most people are not happy with the minister’s statement, since most of them are not yet back to work.

[dropcap]A[/dropcap] section of women in Bugongo parish and Nawangaiza parish in Nawandala Sub County, Iganga District have decried the near-impossible terms set for them to access GROW funds. They have now petitioned their woman member of parliament for Iganga Hon. Kauma Sauda Alibaawo to ask the government for revised terms and conditions. This is to enable them to benefit from the program. The disgruntled women accuse the implementers of the program of charging the money. They are also asking for their land titles and land agreements. They said that such properties are governed by their husbands. These, therefore want the government through their woman MP to intervene and revise the requirements for one to benefit. The women were on Wednesday at Namabwere primary school in Nawandala Sub County. They had gathered in their respective groups to receive over 300 chickens from Hon Alibaawo in her campaign to improve the livelihood of women in Iganga district. Each group was given 50 chicken as start-up capital in their journey to prosperity. Read what some leaders said; Ms Naigambi Lydia from Nawandala Trading Centre says, “They solicited money from us through opening bank accounts and depositing Shs80,000. They also asked for land titles and land agreements from us yet we don’t have such things. I was informed that I needed to have a business with a capital of Shs4m yet my capital was very small.” The chairperson Kisoboka Saving Group in Nawandala Ms. Nakagolo Faith said they were not able to join the program. This is given the many conditions attached. She also asked their woman MP to raise their concerns to the relevant offices. The MP condemned the mode of implementation of the program. She cited that it has turned to benefit the well-off class of women other than the intended group. She further asked the government to intervene saying the current strings attached to the programme are very tight to accommodate a common woman. GROW project is a Government of Uganda initiative that arose out of the need to respond to the needs of women entrepreneurs. This is especially those who want to grow their businesses, sustain their self-employment and create more jobs.
