Lilian Aber, the woman MP of Kitgum district has come out to narrate how she fell victim to teenage pregnancy. While appearing on NBS TV’s People and Power, Aber said that she dropped out of school in senior 3.
This is because she had become pregnant. She would later on give birth at the age of 17.
Furthermore, the MP said that she met a man who promised her heaven and earth. For once, she felt that she could put her troubles aside. She added that she is lucky to have gotten married to a man who saw great potential in her and decided to build it.
“I dropped out of school in Senior Three. I got pregnant and had my first child at the age of 17. I met a gentleman who promised me heaven on earth. And for once, I felt as if I could put my burdens aside. I was lucky to marry a very responsible, loving man who saw the capacity in me and wanted to build it.”
Further, her husband made sure that she goes back to school. He didn’t just want to see her seated at home. He made sure to pay for her fees and support her in every way. In order to make her feel comfortable at school, he always dropped her off disguising as her uncle.
“When I gave birth to my first child, my husband did not want me to just sit at home, he pushed me to go back to school. He paid for my school fees and supported me in every way. He would always drop me off at school, but he would do it in the guise of an uncle so that we could hide it from my classmates and give me comfort,” she added.
Hon Lilian Aber also talked about the difficulties she grew up in. She said that she stopped getting any support from her mother while she was in P.4.
Her grandmother who used to support her through selling food was however aging. Luckily for her, she got a scholarship in secondary school. She nonetheless hustled for other basic necessities.
