This new social media tax will see social media users pay shs200 daily hence each one will be Shs 7300 annually. And the mobile money will be taxed 1% over the total transaction money.
Some MPs rejected the tax on Social Media Platforms!
The MPs are; Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi wine of kyadondo East, Padyere County’s MP Joshua Anywarach, and Silas Aogon of Kumi Municipality.
These MPS claim that imposing taxes on Facebook and Whatsapp will be violation of the user’s right for they already pay taxes on the airtime they use to access them.
However, the planning minister David Bahati said that the government doesn’t tax the airtime used for data or internet. But it only taxes the services.
