President Museveni Attacks Traders Whose Businesses Don’t Add Value To The Country

President Museveni yesterday came out to lash out at traders and other business people who do business that adds no value to the country.

The President said that these people should look at the type of businesses they are doing. He added that they should see if it brings in or sucks out of the economy.

He went ahead to say that it’s the problem he had with KACITA which runs traders in Kampala. These were more bent on importing goods with some not even worthy importation.

“If you want the country to grow, you need to look at what business you are doing. Does it bring in or does it suck out? That is the problem I used to have with KACITA. Their business was importing. They even reached the extent of importing wigs. Minimize and eliminate importing!” President Museveni said.

Mr Museveni made the comments while launching the Presidential CEO forum (PFC) at State House Entebbe yesterday.

Further in his address, Gen Museveni called upon the business community to adopt import substitution and export promotion methods.

This will also help the country realize tangible economic progress.

For a long time now, President Museveni has been encouraging the local community to manufacture local produce. It was from this that the President even banned the importation of some merchandise from abroad.

He also went ahead to commission the assembling manufacturing company Metu Zhongtong Bus Company. He further went ahead to say that Uganda now has the capacity to produce its own buses for local use.

Traders and local investors however have always expressed the different frustrations they are meted out with.
