After presiding over the 33rd NRM Liberation Day celebrations in West Budama, Tororo, president Museveni and First Lady went to Rubongi Sub-county to pay tribute to their comrade, Late Ochwo Obonyo.

Mzee Obonyo, 85, died recently and was buried three days ago. In 1971, Obonyo joined NRM struggle against bad leadership, helping the NRM to recruit fighters in Eastern Uganda.
In 1986, after the NRM took power, we kept in touch. He opted to continue with farming that he began after quitting his teaching job. He became a role model farmer in Tororo,’’Museveni said.
He said that Obonyo grew mangoes and coffee extensively, disapproving claims by some that the soil in Budama was barren. He proved that the soil was not a problem but their mindsets.
I also salute him for being a responsible parent and an advocate of education. All his 15 children are well-educated. I urge the residents to emulate him. May his soul rest in peace,’’he said.
