President Museveni Was Once My Role Model – NUP Secretary-General Rubongoya

The National Unity Platform secretary-general David Lewis Rubongoya came out in an interview to reveal that President Museveni was once his role model.

Rubongoya who was appearing on NBS TV said that just like some Ugandans back, he looked at President Museveni with great admiration.

He went ahead to say that the breaking point came at the lifting of the age limits.

Rubongoya, a lawyer, lecturer and activist said that he felt that he was betrayed when Mr Museveni did that.

“Gen Museveni was at one time my role model and someone I really looked up to. However, when the issue of age limit came up and it was lifted, I felt betrayed and decided to quit his camp. He himself had said he wouldn’t rule past 75 years. I saw this as betrayal because I thought 2016 would be the last time of him appearing on the ballot”. Rubongoya said.

He further added that he’s like some Ugandans who quit the NRM camp at certain times.

Rubongoya was defending himself on how he now became a vehement opponent of the government he once supported.

He said that there are people who have disagreed with President Museveni at different intervals over time.

Rubongoya also said that the rampant tortures by the government were some of the reasons that broke the straw for him.

He also talked about the allegations circulating online that Museveni offered an ambassadorial role.

The former lecturer said that this struggle is not all about personal benefits but rather a unilateral one.

He added that if they gave him the job, he would outrightly reject it because their aim is to liberate Ugandans at large.

Rubongoya has been at times attacked by NUP propagandists. They claimed NRM planted him as a mole in the party.

This is because he studied on the government education programs a few years back.

However, NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has over time defended him saying he trusts him undoubtedly.
