The Minister for ICT and national guidance Dr Chris Baryomunsi, has revealed that President Museveni is set to take action over the Karamoja iron sheets scandal. According to him, the people of Karamoja have every right to get what was promised to them.
Apparently the President is concerned over this matter and it was discussed during a cabinet meeting.
Baryomunsi revealed that the office of the Prime Minister will have to answer all the questions pertaining to these iron sheets.
“The people of Karamoja should get whatever was promised to them. As a matter of fact, the President is concerned, and this issue (iron sheets scandal) was discussed in Cabinet.
The Office of the Prime Minister will have to answer all those questions,” he said while appearing on the NBS Frontline program.
Baryomunsi who is also the Kinkizi east MP said that its wrong to assume that all Ministers are thieves. Not everyone uses their respective ministry to enrich themselves.
He also added that the government doesn’t condone corruption. Therefore when contradictory information is received, an independent body is set up to investigate it. This is what is being done in the case of the Karamoja iron sheets.
Kira Municipality MP Hon Semujju Nganda, however, said that there is nothing to investigate. This is because all the people who got the iron sheets have accepted that they took them.
“I don’t even know what they are investigating in this scandal. All the people who got the iron sheets have confirmed that they received them.”
