Musician Vampino Reveals How He Came Up With His Stage Name

Veteran dancehall musician Elvis Kirya has revealed how he got his stage name, Vampino. Previously he used to be known as Vampos but later changed this name to his current one.

The singer said that he was suspended from school for 3 weeks. He however couldn’t afford to go home and break his mother’s heart. Therefore he decided to always hide in the school dormitory ceiling.

The Smart Wire singer would hide there during the day. His mates started referring to him as Vampire. It was here that his name was born.

“I was suspended from school for 3 weeks, but I couldn’t bear the thought of breaking my mother’s heart by returning home. Instead, I found refuge in the ceiling of the dormitory. The other children began calling me a vampire. It was during this time that the name Vampino came into existence,” he said on the Mwasuze Mutya program on NTV with Faridah Nakazibwe.

It should be noted that Vampino first came onto the scene in the early 2000s in the form of a duo with Benon, the current boss of Swangz Avenue. They were known as Benon and Vampos.

He says that their first songs were financed by his Zungu lover. The singer threatened to dump her if he didn’t finance them.

She finally did and the duo did their first songs. Vampino added that he finally parted ways with this white woman and he dreads the walking bit in the love of white people.

Meanwhile, he also said that despite what people see in him, he isn’t a violent character. And he doesn’t wreck havoc wherever he goes, unlike the popular notion.
