Ndejje Building Collapses Leaving Four Dead So Far

According to the police, an incomplete three-floor building in Ndejje collapsed on Friday leaving 4 people dead. The collapsed building was located in Ndejje-kibutika, Makindye Ssabagabo Municipality in Wakiso district.

The deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire in a Friday evening update said rescuers managed to pull eight people out from the rubble alive.

“The injured are currently receiving treatment at different hospitals,” he said in a statement.

Police identified the dead as Shamilah Namaganda, 15, Boaz Musinguzi, 36, and a man known only as Kasujja. Police said they failed to identify the fourth victim who turned out to be a woman.

Investigations into the sudden collapse are ongoing according to the police who said they are to update the public in case of any findings.

According to eyewitnesses, the building collapsed at around 7:00am on Friday crumbling into two houses. Residents later joined forces with the rescuers in an effort to free those trapped under the debris.

First responders rushed those they rescued from the heaps of debris to various health facilities in Red Cross ambulances.

Owoyesigyire said they will continue to investigate as well as work to clear the ruble to ensure they account for all victims.
