Makerere University Students Risk Missing Exams After Being Remanded To Luzira Prison

Police detained a number of Makerere University students along with MUBS and Kyambogo students during the ‘arrest prices’ protest. This ended with many of them going to jail in Luzira prison.

They consequently arraigned them before Buganda Road Court on Friday May 5th, 2022 where they answered to charges of unlawful assembly.

Among those arrested is Bbosa Edwin Price, the 87th justice and constitutional affairs minister plus some other Makerere students.

These are at risk of missing their ongoing examinations following a court decision to remand them to Luzira prison.

They will appear before court again on May 18th, 2022. This implies that they will miss their exams that are scheduled on days prior 18th May.

Apparently, Makerere University students are doing the end of semester one academic year 2021/2022 examinations. Therefore, the remand puts these students at high risk of missing their exams.

Police arrested these students on May 5th 2022 as they marched to parliament. NUP’s David Musiri lead the group. They were in protest of the skyrocketing prices of commodities in the country.
