Opolot of FDC and Okoboi of NUP had earlier announced their withdrawal from the race.
“This counts as a day of celebration. I brought together these children and talked to them. Taligola and Opolot have stepped down and Okoboi has stepped down,” he said.
Museveni went on to urge the people to vote Hon. Derrick Orone in the Thursday by-elections.
This is because he will be sitting in the NRM caucus meetings and will articulate any problems faced by the people of Gogonyo.
“I am telling you to vote for yourselves. The elections are about you, not individuals. It is about which party we should support that can solve our problems.”
Meanwhile, the chairman of the Electoral Commission asked the candidates who have stepped down to put their withdrawal in writing then it will be officially declared.
FDC Backs Out To Support NUP

The party revealed that it will be redirecting all its efforts towards supporting NUP candidate Joseph Okoboi Opolot. Opolot is vying to become the Gogonyo County Member of Parliament.
