NRM’s Derrick Orone Unopposed In Gogonyo After All Other Candidates Withdraw From The Race

NRM’s Derrick Orone is now officially unopposed after the only remaining opponent stepped down. Issa Taligola, who was independent after losing in the NRM primaries stepped down in front of President Museveni.

This was also before the crowd that had gathered at Kaukura Primary School playground in Gogonyo County.

“In the interest of the party and in respect of your duty as Chairman, I hereby step down,” said Taligola.

It is at this point that President Museveni said he had sat down with his children and advised them to step down. Issa’s announcement came after two candidates earlier stepped down.

Opolot of FDC and Okoboi of NUP had earlier announced their withdrawal from the race.

“This counts as a day of celebration. I brought together these children and talked to them. Taligola and Opolot have stepped down and Okoboi has stepped down,” he said.

Museveni went on to urge the people to vote Hon. Derrick Orone in the Thursday by-elections.

This is because he will be sitting in the NRM caucus meetings and will articulate any problems faced by the people of Gogonyo.

“I am telling you to vote for yourselves. The elections are about you, not individuals. It is about which party we should support that can solve our problems.”

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Electoral Commission asked the candidates who have stepped down to put their withdrawal in writing then it will be officially declared.
