NUP members led by their party president Robert Kyagulanyi have tasked government to give a detailed report surrounding the death of Ugandans and urged all Ugandans to use various social media platforms to further expose the crimes allegedly committed by the regime.
“ We have also not given up, we shall continue to use all the avenues including social media to advocate for justice,” he said.
In the aftermath of the riots, it has become evident that numerous individuals suffered grave injustices. NUP firmly believes that it is crucial to address these cases with the utmost seriousness and urgency.
NUP secretary General Lewis Rubongoya commended the families of the victims for pursuing justice amid threats and intimidations. He further urged party leaders not to deviate from fighting for freedom.
However the party aims to advocate for the rights of those affected, ensuring their grievances are acknowledged and resolved appropriately.
Lack of accountability surrounding the 2020 riots
Recognizing the importance of an impartial investigation, NUP is calling for a comprehensive review of the incidents that occurred during the riots.
The party believes that a fair and thorough examination is necessary to uncover the truth, identify the perpetrators responsible for the violence, and bring them to justice.
NUP has consistently voiced concerns about the lack of accountability surrounding the 2020 riots and the resulting harm inflicted upon innocent citizens.
The party believes that the pursuit of justice is a fundamental principle that should be upheld, regardless of one’s political affiliation.
Through its efforts, NUP aims to restore faith in the justice system and ensure that all victims receive the closure they deserve.
By demanding a fresh pursuit of justice for the victims of the 2020 riots, NUP hopes to rectify the injustices perpetrated and set a precedent for a fair and inclusive society.
