This clearly shows that indeed the ministry of education has already decided that schools should open at whatever cost.
It should be a step of faith because of the risks involved in it. Even though these SOPs are all followed to the dot, there is no guarantee that students will be safe. Given that cases are even more this time and already in the community, its hard to curb the spread of the virus.
The most risky thing is that the ministry won’t carry out mass testing. This will be done on personal budgets of either schools or the parents.
Actually, ahead of the reopening of schools, the ministry of health has asked for UGX 5.7 billion. The ministry says this is for the provision of masks for students. Its just days away to the declared day of reopening of schools, we don’t know whether the government will fulfill the budget.
The fact is the economy is in a sorry state because people have not been working so taxes have been low.
However, life has to go on even amidst Coronavirus. Schools have to reopen because students have to go to school and teachers have to work.
The minister of Education, Janet Museveni, has asked for support and cooperation from students, teachers, school owners and parents.
The question is, since Hon Janet Museveni seems to be giving up on students, what will the poor parents do to ensure the safety of their children?
