The months of tension eventually turned into a military face-off two days ago putting people in danger.
Shadow Minister of foreign affairs Muwada Nkunyingi, recently spoke to the media at Parliament. He urged the government the rescue trapped Ugandans before the situation gets any worse.
The legislators revealed how many Ugandans stranded on the battlefield have sent distress calls to them asking for help.
The opposition has placed its blame on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its failure to issue timely travel advice to Ugandans.
However, though, Dr. Rashid Yahya Semuddu, Uganda’s ambassador to Khartoum assured the safety of Ugandans in the area.
The fighting between the army and paramilitaries has left nearly 200 people dead and 1800 wounded. It has also damaged hospitals and hampered aid after three days of urban warfare.
This caused safety concerns among the legislators hence pressuring the government to rescue trapped Ugandans.
