Our Greatest Contribution In This Country Has Been Nurturing Great Leaders – Prof. Nawangwe

Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe, the vice chancellor of Makerere University has said they have greatly nurtured leaders in this country.

As the University prepares to celebrate 100 years of existence, Prof Nawangwe says the country should realize what the University has had in nurturing great leaders. Most of the renowned leaders in this country have had a background at Makerere University.

“We produced the first leaders of independence and we contribute 80% of the leaders of today. We nurture great leaders and continue to nurture great leaders. Makerere nurtures great leaders, that is one of the greatest contributions we have made over the years.”

He has encouraged people all over the country to participate in these celebrations. According to Nawangwe, it’s very important to celebrate the 100 years to evaluate the whole system at large.

“100 years for a university is a major milestone. We are celebrating because we want to look back and see. ‘What did people do to make the university great and what can we do now?”

Commenting about the recent incident that killed a UCU student, Nawangwe said it’s under investigation.

“The political violence and the death of a student pains us, that shouldn’t be happening at @Makerere. Whenever there is an election, some form of violence comes up, this was the worst. The council wants to understand this and deal with it for good.”
