Almost 90% of all the newly elected members of parliament from Buganda region are from the National Unity Platform party. In simple terms, Buganda was painted red.
Lumumba said that the senior leaders should go back to the drawing boards and know what went wrong during these elections.
“These senior leaders have got the message and will have to go back to the voters to seek their mandate and if the outcome does not favour them they should accept it,”
However, much as Buganda undoubtedly showed their support for especially NUP, other areas also showered NRM with their support. Western and Northern Uganda areas voted for NRM.
Kasule Lumumba said this also was and is an achievement. Kasese for example was an area that was always won by opposition that is Forum for Democratic change. However, this time round NRM took the lead.
Some people were trying to put the loss in Buganda on tribalism. They were saying people gave their votes to NUP because their President is a Muganda.
However some political analysts said that can’t be true. They blamed it on an unknown political wave of people just wanting something new, something like change.
Well, we shall wait and see what conclusions NRM will come up with after their investigations.
