In Uganda, a child is referred to as an adult after turning 18 years. Most of the teenagers try so hard to stay on the right path.
However, a few start engaging themselves in sexual activities while still young. They sometimes end up getting pregnant and becoming teenage mothers.
Teenage mothers are struggling and are exposed to STDs and other infections because of early childbirth, Now, there has been a suggestion from advocates asking the ministry of health to consider giving 15-year-olds contraceptives.
This is apparently to avoid all the problems that come up.
As a religious leader, Pastor Ssempa is not buying any such ideas. He said the church is trying so hard to groom teenagers to be responsible adults.
He said it would be very unfortunate if the young girls start getting contraceptives. Their future might be difficult to handle.
“I don’t know what Ugandans really want but I think it is really disappointing to hear that teenagers need contraceptives. In church, we teach these children that sex before marriage is a sin. With contraceptives, it will be pushing these young girls to go engage in sexual activities after all no pregnancy,” he said.
