Professional soccer player Patrick Ekeng died after collapsing on the field during a televised game in Romania.[9]

Patrick, a 26-year-old midfielder from Cameroon,[4] played for Dinamo Bucharest. His team was playing Viitorul in Bucharest on Friday when he collapsed. Patrick fell during the 69th minute of the game and was rushed to hospital,[2] where he was declared dead, local media reported.
The Cameroon Football Federation shared the news on social media.[7] “Lion Patrick Ekeng died in full match with his club Dinamo Bucharest,” the federation tweeted.
Prior to Dinamo Bucharest, Ekeng he played for Spanish football club Cordoba.
“There are no words to express our grief at the death of Patrick,” Cordoba tweeted. “Mourn your loss,[4] friend.”
Fellow African soccer players also expressed their condolences.[1]
“Very sad to hear the tragic death of Cameroon footballer Patrick Ekeng in Romania. RIP,” Ghanaian player Andre Ayew tweeted.[2]

Patrick is not the first international Cameroon sports star to collapse on the pitch.[9]
In 2003, soccer player Marc-Vivien Foe died from cardiac arrest during a Confederations Cup semifinal in France.[2] It was a tragic shock to the cameroonian funs and many others across the world, many think he might have had heart problems, and that might be true, however, prosecutors have begun probing into Patrick’s death in Romania.[5]
