Police Confiscates Taxi Reportedly Used In Robberies

Police in Uganda have finally started a crackdown on some of the Taxis which are reportedly used in robberies following several complaints from people who are already victims in such kind of robberies.

This Wednesday morning, the Kampala Metropolitan Police have impounded an old taxi registration number UAU 122U, after being noticed and warned the public about it via social media messages aswell as informing police to take action. This taxi normally uses northern bypass road, from Busega to Namboole especially at night and very early morning, according to sources.

Police have finally impounded this taxi!

It has also arrested the suspects. Police is now calling up all victims to come to CPS Kampala to open cases against the suspects.

So many Ugandans have been robbed in taxis whereby if one enters a taxi, conductors an drivers play monkey tricks and these involve fixing the so called faulty door.

The cases we have received show passengers being robbed in taxis during lunch time and evening hours between 7pm and 9pm,’’ according to Police.

How I was robbed in a taxi!

Even myself I was robbed the same way. It was around 7:30pm, I went up to Kyebando stage from Bukoto and boarded an old taxi, I sat infront with my bag having a laptop in it, I sat next to someone whom I couldn’t recognize because it was getting dark, reaching close to Kisaasi fly-over, the door started opening while the taxi is moving, the conductor started saying to me,’’touch here and close it, I started fidgeting with the door and I even forgot my bag, the door failed to close and the driver decided to park aside, the conductor said to me,’’ since the front door has failed to close, just come and sit behind, I got my bag and moved out, as soon as I stepped out, the driver just drove and left me on the road side.

I waited for another taxi to proceed with my journey, when I reached home, I could not realize immediately, after a few minutes of resting, checking my bag, I couldn’t believe what I saw, it was a big stone instead of my laptop, what a hell is going on? I quickly remembered the taxi which I boarded at first.

My brothers and sisters, are you a frequent traveler on northern bypass road? be very careful when using taxis especially at night and very early in the morning.

It might not necessarily be Northern bypass road only, these robbers can still use different operation venues to avoid being detected by victims.
