Woman Kidnaps Own Child To Extort Money From Her Husband

Police in Kampala have mounted a hunt for a woman who allegedly kidnapped her own son. She reportedly did this to extort Shs4 million from her husband. The incident happened last week when a one Justine Namukeme informed her husband, Stephen Wasinga of the kidnapping.

She told him that their 5-year-old son Adrian Wansireko had been taken from their home in Nansana, Wakiso District by unknown assailants.

Wasinga then rushed to the police to file a case of child kidnapping. Upon his return home, he found a letter on their doorstep directing him to send Shs4 million if he wanted to see his son alive again.

“The letter warned me not to involve the police. Nevertheless, I went back to inform the police about this new development,” Wasinga said.

The police decided it would trick the assailants by requesting details on how to recover the child. They later discovered that the number provided by the kidnappers did not work, raising more suspicion.

The wife however asked Wasinga not to worry saying the number would become operational. This took him aback and surprisingly the number became active, leaving Wasinga perplexed.

He immediately informed the officers at the station about this new development. The officers then started questioning Namuleme about the phone number.

“As she continued to be interrogated, she managed to escape through the back door. Shortly afterward, the child returned home. The boy informed his father that his mother had placed him on a motorcycle that brought him back home. The wife has since fled, but we are actively searching for her,” Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson said.

Wasinga said the wife had obtained numerous loans for unknown reasons. He added that she might have done this to obtain money to pay back the loans.
