For now, whilst coronavirus doesn’t have a cure, a new publication released on 11th June 2020 shows that some of the vaccines developed to eliminate epidemic diseases of the 20th Century such as polio, showed some effectiveness against other viral diseases.
Afterwards, Chumakov Konstantin from Food and Drug Administration in United States and his group who wrote the publication believe that if polio vaccine is applied on coronavirus, also a viral illness, there can be an amazing progress.
According to the publication, reports shows that coronavirus could result in immune suppression but stimulating the immune system by live weakened vaccines – like how it’s done in polio vaccines, may increase resistance to infection by coronavirus.
‘Clinical trials of this supposition might start with immediate effect, ‘said scientists.
The tests on the vaccine against tuberculosis called BCG, have started off already by immunizing front-line medical workers to determine effectiveness, ‘the journal reads in part.
In fighting coronavirus, the scientists advise that OPV gives more promising results compared to BCG simply because it is safer and reasonably priced.
