President Museveni has said he is still running for president because Ugandans still want him around. He claims that the citizens of Uganda think he is the only one who can solve some of the problems facing the country.
He made these remarks on Monday afternoon while launching the NRM manifesto for 2021-2026 after his nomination.
“Some people have been saying Museveni has refused to retire. It is not that I don’t want to retire or that I don’t have where to retire. One of the reasons is that if Ugandans still want us to participate, I will continue making myself available,’’ Museveni said.
He has emphasized for many years the Federation of the East African Region and on Monday, he underscored the same. According to the East African Community Treaty, a political federation is the fourth highest form of integration.
President Museveni said he has always insisted on the EAC because the countries share similar cultures and languages. He said this makes it easier for cohesion among the political units. He also talked about people who front the idea of tribes other than their countries.
The opposition
The president disagreed with the nay-sayers, noting that they are the enemy of development. He told them to stop confusing Ugandans with tribe and religion because one becomes the enemy when they start talking about tribes.
The NRM flag bearer noted that since 1986, Uganda’s economy has recovered and expanded to create more jobs, raise taxes, support defense, health among other sectors. He said Uganda is on the verge of becoming a middle-income country. He launched his manifesto with the Slogan; “Securing your future”.
