While appearing on the NBS Frontline, Hon Ssemujju cited an example of the first lady Janet Kataha who is the Minister of Education and Sports but has never stepped into Parliament.
The vocal MP added that such things may look small but matter. They in fact have an impact on service delivery. And he thinks that Janet does this deliberately because she’s ‘untouchable.’
“Mr. Museveni has succeeded in degrading and devaluing public institutions. Mr. Museveni’s wife is a minister but has never stepped in Parliament. What do you do to a minister like that one?
These things, small as they look have an impact on service,” the MP said.
It’s not the first time that the President has been accused of ‘Musevenizing’ all government institutions. All three arms of government largely have an influence by the NRM chief exerted onto them.
Even the leaders he appoints to some positions, the President always handles most of the critical issues in their departments.
A case in point is the recent Arts teachers’ strike over pay. Despite his wife being the Minister of Education, Museveni had to meet these teachers on two occasions to solve the crisis.
The legislator further advised those who talk to President Museveni directly to remind him that there is work to do. This includes appointing the Governor of the Bank of Uganda.
According to Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, Museveni’s honeymoon with his wife in Ntungamo should be cut short. This is for him to address national issues.
“This country doesn’t even have a Governor of the Central Bank. That’s why I say, those people who speak to the President, you can call him from his honeymoon with his wife in Ntungamo and tell him there is some work. For a full year, we have no governor,” added the MP.
