President Museveni Commissioned An Irrigation Scheme In Kasese District

This afternoon, president Museveni was in Bukonzo West Constituency, Kasese District, where he commissioned an irrigation scheme and later addressed a rally at Karambi Primary School in Bwera Town Council.

President Museveni appreciated the people of Kasese for the warm reception, the area NRM leaders for organizing the activities and the area MP, Hon Godfrey Katusabe of the FDC, for supporting them. He is glad they had a successful bi-partisan gathering.

Primarily, I was in Kasese to remind the residents about the NRM formula of improving household income. You must differentiate between development (roads, electricity etc) and wealth (your individual income). The government will bring you development in but you must work for your wealth,’he said.

The president urges you to implement the four-acre plan that he keeps talking about. Have several enterprises like coffee growing, dairy rearing, poultry keeping and fruit farming. For those with less land in this area, consider growing high-value crops like apples or pineapples.

About industries, Uganda already has some like Nima Cement here. The government is going to revamp Kilembe Mines and encourage more investors to set up shop here. These will provide employment to the local people here.

In order to support agriculture we shall intensify irrigation. The government has rehabilitated the Mubuku Irrigation Scheme and we shall support smaller community-driven schemes,’president said.

On the question of fishing, it was wrong for the communities here to engage in catching immature fish. However, I do not condone use of violence by those checking this vice. I will investigate the allegations of harassment by law enforcers.

About animals from the parks invading your gardens, the government is soon erecting an electric fence to stop the animals, especially in areas where the park borders human settlements,’he added.
