Presidential nominations kick off today with President Museveni among the first aspirants. The nominations will take place at Kyambogo University, sports ground and will end tomorrow. Ahead of these nominations, the police have closed all roads leading to the nomination venue.
These roads are only open to the nomination candidates.
Police announced that they don’t expect any supporter along the roads. Cameras have however caught some NRM members waiting for their candidate.
Actually if anything, the Electoral commission has said if some people are to show up they must be having certificates clearing them of coronavirus. We are yet to see how this will be implemented.
Electoral commission expects each candidate to go with only 10 people as escorts. The electoral commission will therefore nominate five candidates today as planned.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, General Henry Tumukunde, General Mugisha Muntu, John Katumba running as independent and Nancy Kalembe Linda as an independent too.
The electoral commission decided that they will nominate Robert Kyagulanyi of NUP tomorrow. Along with him four other candidates will also be nominated, Willy Mayambala, Patrick Oboi Amuriat, Fred Mwesigye and Joseph Kabuleta.
We are just a few months away from the 2021 general elections. The presidential nominations are a green light that the elections are indeed taking place as programmed.
