Private universities are demanding government to fund their research and innovation projects in a bid to beef up modern learning.
Prof Magnus Amajinonwu Virtual University of Uganda Vice Chancellor says despite huge investment by private university owners government has failed to fund research grants which are needed to build capacities of universities to contribute to the development of the country.
“We demand that government funds our research projects through university grants so that the entire community can benefit from our cutting edge teaching programmes,” he said.
Virtual university of Uganda is the pioneer university that teaches advanced online education in the region however officials are frustrated with low intake due to low public awareness of the programmes.
Magnus however appealed to National Council for Higher education to recognize online education as relevant in this digital era to enable the public embrace the teaching.
