This was in regards to the new coffee agreement that the government of Uganda recently signed with the Vinci Company.
This agreement that gives a monopoly to this company to dictate everything about coffee in Uganda has left different people and stakeholders fuming.
These accuse the government of being so inconsiderate and selfish for not consulting with them before signing this agreement.
Many people have deemed the agreement unfair and a huge fraud. This is due to its content and the monopoly given to this company.
Worst of all is that they gave this same company the deal to construct the multi-billion Lubowa hospital. They are yet to give satisfactory feedback.
Hon Nsamba, therefore, believes that with the name and stature Ggobi had cultivated as one of the leading economists in the country, he should have done better in regards to this deal.
Nsamba added that he hasn’t heard any Ugandan saying anything good about this agreement apart from Ramathan Ggobi.
“One person I get disappointed in is @rggoobi. He was one person we trusted as an economist to help this country. At least he should have stopped at signing the deal. I haven’t heard any Ugandan apart from @rggoobi saying that this Coffee Agreement is good,” Hon Patrick Nsamba said.
Nsamba also added that the first time he heard about this company was 2 years ago. It’s when they gave them 27 acres of land in Namanve to do some projects that weren’t related to coffee.
Therefore it’s such a huge disappointment that the government decided to give exclusive rights to a company that has been nonexistent in the value chain of coffee.
“The first time I heard about Vinci Company was in March 2020, when it had been given 27 acres of land in Namanve. It wasn’t about anything related to coffee.
Vinci Company hasn’t been participating in the coffee value chain, and these are the people the government wants to give exclusive rights to our coffee,” Nsamba said while appearing on the NBS Morning Breeze.
Yesterday the Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga also expressed his disappointment in this Coffee deal.
The Katikkiro said that Buganda Kingdom is one of the biggest stakeholders in coffee production. However, they didn’t consult them before signing the deal.
