According to Navio, he grew up listening to the legendary singer and Hamadi was one of his favorite songs. It wasn’t however given the attention he thought it deserved by Ugandans.
The song therefore turning out to be an underdog inspired the Njogereza singer to redo it. It in fact related with most Ugandans stories as many see themselves as underdogs.
Apparently Navio had also always dreamt of collaborating with the late singer. It’s the reason he didn’t remove his vocals and simply left them there.
“I released the song off my album in August last year. It’s one of those songs I grew up listening to and I loved it. However, I felt it wasn’t getting the attention it deserved and I promised myself to redo it and serve it back to the people to judge. I also wanted to do a collabo with the late Elly Wamala. It’s why I didn’t remove his voice because it’s unique. The song is also an underdog and most Ugandans think they are. Therefore it tells the story perfectly,” said the singer.
Furthermore, Navio talked about some of the recently remade songs but more so Philly Bongole Lutaaya’s Born In Africa.
This arose the dust after Kenzo redid it and added some disparaging comments. Navio said that he prefers Bebe Cool’s version as it stayed closer to the original. But the original will always be better than the duplicates.
Navio also talked about the saga of Big Eye accusing Kenzo of withholding international music connections.
According to the rapper, if one is not your friend, you shouldn’t expect help from them. However, he added that it’s the responsibility of the older artists to uplift the younger generation.
