Frank Gashumba has blamed religious leaders for neglecting the teachers’ please for a fair salary. He said their voice would have added a lot of value to the strike the teachers were having. Unfortunately, the strike was even stopped when no religious leader had ever come out to comment about it in anyway.
“Religious leaders have betrayed the people of the nation. If only there were leaders who came out and spoke about the teachers’ issue, maybe it would have gotten much more attention.”
Some members of the public have asked religious leaders that other than the word, they should also preach about the injustices in the country.
“I pray religious leaders not only stop preaching the gospel but also enforce justice n righteousness 😭. Otherwise, with this ongoing, they are leaders and should be accountable 😔,” a one Yeda said.
Meanwhile, he questioned the unity of teachers because as soon as science teachers got what they wanted they went quiet. In fact, at some point when arts teachers came out to strike, their science teachers advised them to go back to class. According to Gashumba, everyone is on their own.
“UGX 4 million is not a lot of money. There is no money; that is a lot. Now that they have given the science teachers salaries, they are silent. It shows you that everyone is on their own.”
